2.1 Editions types

Publication of scientific, educational, reference, and practical books is a part of the publishing activity. In their turn each of them is subdivided into types according to volume, periodicity, nature of information, purpose, and design.

I. EDITIONS TYPES ACCORDING TO THEIR PURPOSE

Scientific edition contains the results of theoretical and (or) experimental research, as well as scientifically prepared for publication cultural monuments and historical documents;

Educational edition contains systematic information of scientific or applied nature, presented in a form suitable for study and teaching, and intended for students of different ages and levels of education;

Reference edition contains brief information of scientific or applied nature, arranged in an order that is easy to find, not intended to be read at length;

Practical is an industrial edition, containing information on technology, engineering and organization of production, as well as other areas of public practice, designed for professionals of different qualifications;

II. EDITIONS TYPES ACCORDING TO ITS INFORMATION

Non-recurrent publications are divided into the following types depending on the nature of the information they contain

Dissertation abstract is a scientific publication in the form of a brochure that contains the author's abstract of his doctoral dissertation;

Conference materials (congress, symposium) is a non-periodical collection that contains the results of the conference in the form of presentations, recommendations, and decisions;

Monograph is a scientific or popular scientific publication containing a complete and comprehensive study of a single problem or topic and owned by one or more authors;

Practicum is a textbook containing practical assignments and exercises that contribute to the understanding of what has been learned;

Preprint is a scientific publication containing material of a preliminary nature published prior to the publication in which it may appear;

Prolegomena; introduction is a scientific or scholarly publication containing primary information and basic principles of a science;

Workbook is a textbook with a special didactic apparatus that facilitates the student's independent work in mastering the subject;

Tutorial is a textbook for independent learning of something without the help of a supervisor;

Collection of scientific works is a collection of scholarly materials from academic institutions, schools, or societies;

Dictionary (loosely referred to as reference dictionary) is a reference book containing an ordered list of linguistic units with related reference data;

Reference book is a book of applied, practical nature that has a systematic structure or is structured according to the alphabetical order of the titles (according to the purpose there are scientific, mass-political, industrial-practical, educational, popular and household reference books);

Abstracts of reports/presentations of scientific conference (congress, symposium) is a scientific non-periodical collection, which contains pre-conference materials published before the conference (abstracts, summaries of reports and (or) reports);

Terminology dictionary is a dictionary that contains terms from a specific field or subject and their explanations;

Explanatory dictionary is a dictionary of language which explains the meanings of words in a particular language, provides their grammatical and stylistic characteristics and examples of their use, etc;

Curriculum is a textbook which defines the content, scope and procedure of studying and teaching an academic discipline (its sections or parts);

Textbook is a publication which contains a systematic description of a subject (or a part thereof) which is in compliance with the study programme and has been officially approved as such;

Manual is a publication that complements or replaces a textbook in part or in full and which has been authorised for this type of publication;

Teaching and methodological manual means a textbook that complements or replaces, in part or in full, a textbook; an educational publication that contains material on the teaching and/or studying methods of a discipline (its parts) and educational methods;

Set of textbooks is designed a certain level of education, including a textbook, workbook, workbook, reference book;

Chrestomathy is a textbook that contains literary, fiction, historical and other works or excerpts from them that are the object of study of an academic discipline;

Language dictionary is a dictionary that contains a list of linguistic units with their characteristics or their translation into another language.
